ABOUT THE INSTITUTE/DEPARTMENT
The foundation stone of the Sanjay Gandhi PGI, Lucknow, was laid on December 14, 1980, by the President of India, His Excellency, Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy. They aimed to create a state-of-the-art quality medical education, training, medical care, and cutting-edge research institution with the motto, “Hospitals with a long tradition of excellence have demonstrated abundantly that research enhances the vitality of teaching, teaching lifts the standards of service, and service opens new avenues of investigation”.
The department of Nuclear Medicine was started in 1988 with two planar gamma cameras, a Head tomograph, a dedicated SPECT system for the head, and a dual photon X-ray bone densitometer. The department performs over ten thousand diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per year using various radio isotopes at a reasonable cost. In the current scenario, we work on the production of various radioisotopes (both metal and non-metal based) via cyclotron and utilize them in various clinical applications.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This workshop is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the production, radiochemistry, and applications of Cu-64, Zr-89 radioisotopes. It will offer participants a hands-on experience with cutting-edge techniques and methodologies used in the production and characterisation of Cu-64, Ga-68 & Zr-89 radioisotopes, etc., which play a pivotal role in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- Target Selection: Covering target material selection, preparation and handling techniques.
- Production: Exploring cyclotron-based production methods, irradiation parameters and optimisation strategies.
- Separation and Purification: Learning best practices for isolating high-purity Ga-68, Zr-89 and Cu-64 from irradiated targets.
- Quality Control and Standardisation: Discussing analytical techniques for radiochemical purity, specific activity and sterility.
- Application: Examining clinical and preclinical applications of Zr-89, Ga-68 and Cu-64 based radiopharmaceutical.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMS
We demonstrate the solid target methodology: covering target selection, preparation, bombardment for radionuclide production, separation, purification, recycling and application via theoretical and practical aspect using radiochemistry, radiophysics concept.
